Photos: 4 Nigerians and a Malian arrested for illegal sales of 4,580 kg of psychotropic drugs in Kano

by

National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested four Nigerians and a Malian in connection with illegal sales of 4,580 kilogrammes of psychotropic drugs in Kano State. The seized drugs comprising 2,592kgs of codeine cough syrups and 1,988kgs of tramadol were recovered from five secret warehouses by officers of the Kano State command.

The suspects Ikechukwu Ukwuoma was arrested with with 2,010kgs of codeine cough syrups; Nura Ibrahim, 30, caught with 886kgs of tramadol, and Zakari Muhammadi, a Malian, found with 850kgs of tramadol, Ernest Asogwa, 34, caught with 582kgs of codeine syrup and Ikenna Osuizugba, 34, found in possession of 252kgs of tramado.

Mr. Ukwuoma, 34, a suspected major distributor of Codeine cough syrups in Kano has told the anti-drug agency that he ventured into the business because of the high profit margin. He said Codeine business in the state sells fast and that he was only interested in the profit, the NDLEA said in a statement Friday, August 5th.
"A bottle of codeine in Kano is twice the cost price in the east," said Mr. Ukwuoma, who hails from Imo State and is married with three children. I did not know how the officers discovered my warehouse where the drugs were kept. I regret my action" xxThe NDLEA said the arrests and seizures were made following intelligence report on the illicit drug activities of the suspects.
"The abuse of psychotropic drugs like codeine cough syrups and tramadol is prevalent among young people and married women in the State," said Hamza Umar, NDLEA Kano State Commander. "It is common to see iced bottles of codeine cough syrup instead of beverage drinks in a gathering of young people."
Ibrahim, who hails from Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, Asogwa and Osuizugba all told officials that they decided to sell the drugs because of the profit involved. xxxMuhammad Abdallah, Chairman of the NDLEA, said the agency has intensified its sensitization efforts in the state with the aim of reducing the demand and supply of the drugs.
"The NDLEA is working assiduously to boost the sensitization efforts of the State command," said Abdallah. "We are getting more families, schools, community groups and the media involved in this enlightenment programme. This is one important way of reducing the demand and supply for both codeine cough syrup and tramadol tablet taken by youths."

by

Globacom, the grandmasters of data, has again emerged as the number one telecommunications company in Nigeria in the area of acquisition of internet subscribers in the month of June.
Latest figures released by the industry regulator for the month of June showed that Globacom added a total of 272,674 new subscribers during the month, moving from 26,355,391 internet subscribers in May to 26,628,065 at the end of June.
Airtel came second with 17,325,423 subscribers in June, thus increasing its internet subscribers by 45,334, having ended the month of May with 17,280,089 internet subscribers.
The duo of Etisalat and MTN, however, recorded losses. Etisalat lost a total of 254,511 internet subscribers, moving from 15,508,024 internet subscribers the operator had in May to 15,253,513 at the end of June.

MTN Nigeria moved from 33,108,786 internet subscribers in May to 32,974,177 in June, thus losing a total of 134,609 internet subscribers.

The introduction of more customer-friendly products and services by Globacom and its significantly enhanced capacity could be responsible for the continuous increase in the number of new internet subscribers on the Globacom network. Prominent among these offerings are Thank Glo It's Friday (TGIF) which gives Glo subscribers a massive 3GB of data on weekends at just N500, the  Jollific8, widely acclaimed to be the best value for money product in the industry and gives subscribers eight times the value of their recharge as well as the Data Overload.

#BLACKLIVESMATTERS: Black 18 year old teen shot and killed by the Police in Chicago

by

An 18 year old Chicago black teen, Paul O'Neal who was in a stolen car was being chased by the police and fatally shot in the back. In the video above, after the police chase, the teen ran out of the car and was chased on foot by cops who eventually apprehended him and cuffed his arms, with blood oozing from his back. Initially the police didn't know the teen had been shot, when they realized he had been shot, they all became confused and asked each other who may have shot the teenager.
Rather than call for the medics, they were seen in the videos on their body camera trying to figure out who shot the boy. One of them was even worried that he would be on desk duty for the next 30 days.
Videos from the fatal shooting of Paul O'Neal by Chicago police show a succession of apparent procedural errors, including police shooting at a fleeing vehicle with other officers in harm's way. In a video that was released by the Police on August 5th, one of the police men who thought that he shot the 18 year old could be heard saying that he had no idea whether the 18-year-old was armed.

Comments from that officer caught on video indicate he may have erroneously thought O'Neal had fired from a stolen car barreling in his direction. In fact, those shots were fired in the officer's direction by other police shooting at the stolen car in apparent violation of departmental policy.

Leicester City is still basking the glow of their unprecedented title triumph last season and the rewards are still rolling in. Members of the title winning side were each rewarded with a BMW i8 worth exactly £104990.

A fleet of 19 protonic blue BMW I8s - which cost a total of £2million  were seen outside the club's King Power Stadium.
